[Hearth] Voices from Ukraine: Part 2

"Today, it is not enough to be the leader of the nation ... Being the leader of the world means to be the leader of peace." - Ukraine President Zelensky

Today marked our 98th Essential Conversations. We invited back our conversation starters from last week Tatiana Riabokin, DC and Katherine Curran to share more reflections. We gathered for the Hearth to slow down and go deeper into our conversation on the Ukrainian Crisis. We hold the people of Ukraine and all the refugees in our hearts today.

What has happened and changed within the last week? Tatiana expresses the world is traumatized. People are traumatized. People who are hurt, hurt other people. All of us around the world have experienced some sort of trauma in our our lives. Russia will do whatever they want to get what they want. People are well aware we are dealing with a bully. We have learned from history and past experiences that any society that has been under dictator, the generations of people are brought up around trauma, war and famine. We continue to traumatize ourselves over and over again. It’s important to remember the first seven years of a humans life is the most crucial and critical to their well-beings. We need to help and heal ourselves and others and think about how we bring up the next generation. If we don’t fix our own trauma, how are we going to bring up the next generation?

What is currently happening in Ukraine is being more evident and symbolic of what has gone on in the past and what is going on around the world. There are so many countries and people around the world that can relate to the people in Ukraine - the people who have been oppressed. The Bullies and The Oppressed. The amount of information and media is giving the world education. Not just educating people about Ukraine but about Soviet Russia, current Russia and Putin. We have to learn how to deal with that. They are bullies on a huge sale. It has happened to various groups throughout the world. We have to find a way out of this complex problem.

On another note: “The United Nations says Russia and Ukraine produces 53% of the world’s sunflowers and seeds, and 27% of the world’s wheat.” If new seeds don’t get planted soon; we have 1-2 weeks left of seeds in the soil. Without more planting there will be world hunger that we haven’t seen in decades. As it continues it’s not a war that isn’t just on our screens, but its going to affect people throughout the world. Most of the wheat crops exported from Russia go to Africa, Middle East and Europe. There’s not enough wheat grown in other parts of the world to make up for that loss. This is catastrophic for the world, our world. It will starve everyone out.

IT IS A TIME FOR ACTION. We first have to do it in our own communities and then expand from there. Anything you do from the heart it affects everything on a global level. Think about where you’re located and how you can help around your community because every community needs help - they all have problems. Right now Ukraine is doing all the fighting in for the world. They are flighting NATOs war - they are fighting the worlds war. “We are born and living in this time for a reason and purpose.” Get in touch with your purpose and make the smallest impact within your own community.

How do you get more involved and step up as a leader?

  • Contact Ukraine community center and organizations within your community

  • Contact leaders in your community: senators, congressman, political leaders

  • Donate to organizations for refugees, military aid, charities

  • Educate yourselves and educate people in your own community.

  • Put up a Ukraine flag in the window or out in your lawn. Buy sunflowers or anything yellow and blue to show your support to Ukraine.
