“I’m too busy!” Work-Life Balance or Work-Life Choice?: Part 1 of a 2-part Series

“I’m too busy!

By Lynn Nelson, Faculty, Whole Person Leadershipfor Women

Is this a frequent response from you, even when you’re invited to do something you really want to do?

In a world where activity is often prompted by texts, social media and emails, it’s easy to lose track of your priorities.

I was talking with a friend yesterday about the epidemic of busyness, and she had an excellent insight. Being busy sometimes is a form of unconscious procrastination:

·      I meant to see my older parents, but I’m so busy.

·      I really want to organize my closet, but I’m so busy.

·      I’d get more exercise if I weren’t so – well, you know!

I realize being busy is a sign of importance in our society, but what if it distracts us from our true intentions and priorities?

Is it possible that our own anxiety keeps us from slowing down and letting go of activities that are unproductive? It certainly doesn’t help us achieve our intentions.

I’ve spent the past 12 years learning about why I was so BUSY. Along the way, I wrote book called Getting Your Life into Balance. I don’t have all the answers, but I uncovered some insightful perspectives along the way. And whenever I feel overwhelmed by busy-ness, I take a step back to consider what’s really going on.

We’ll talk about this and more during our next Whole Person Leadership for Women Zoominar this Wednesday, Oct. 23, at 12:00pm Central US. If you’re curious about our program, please sign up to join us here:  Register for a Zoominar.

I promise you’ll get some new insights of your own. And it will only cost you an hour of your time.
