The Great Reimagining of 2022

By Lily Jones

Happy New Year from Center for Purposeful Leadership! We have all lived the lives of the old normal, but are ready to leave it behind and move on to a new normal. Last summer and fall, during the CPL Retreat and in the Essential Conversations, we discussed and reimagined what the new future would look like. Many groups and communities on the planet are reimaging a new future. The Center for Purposeful Leadership community is co-creating a 9-year vision together. We invite you to join us.

Inspired by Amanda Gorman’s “New Day, New Year” poem*: Every day is a new day but not every day is a new year. To bring everyone into the circle, we asked members to write their “New Day, New Year” lyric. (a sample of responses are below).

To bring our excitement to the New year, on December 31, 2021: Center for Purposeful Leadership received its 501C3 tax letter from the IRS which means we have been verified to be a charitable nonprofit organization. During our transition to a nonprofit we have updated our vision, mission and values statement. The words we use in our statements have always been what we are in service to: A Collective Reality. This is a continuation of this 26-year-old dream which provides resources and opportunities to navigate personal space, and brave spaces to grow and navigate to our relational spaces. We are calling one another all of us collectively to ask ourselves to step forward in new ways.

During this week’s Essential Conversations, we had open discussions about “Convening the Inner Life” and “Convening Relationships.” From Founder-Led to Community-Powered is a thread to make a world a place we want to live. So everyone feels heard. Convening the Inner Life and Relationships is so important to determine who you are and what you care for.

Convening the Inner Life
Convening is an “inside job”. The question at heart of the matter is “Who am I?” This is an area where we can explore the inner work of convening. “The success of any intervention is dependent on the interior state of the intervener (convener)."

  • How do I stay grounded or centered when there is so much disruption?

  • How can I be more confident as a convener?

  • What are practices that can help me navigate feelings of vulnerability?

  • What does it mean to “presume positive intent while being conscious of outcomes of my actions”?

Convening Relationships
All transformation is relational. At the Heart of the Matter is, “Who am I in relationship?” Who are we called to be together? In this topic we will explore the challenges and opportunities presented in relationships.

  • How do Convening principles apply to my family life?

  • Where can I turn for help when I get stuck?

  • What are some tools to help repair ruptured relationships?

  • When do I need to be more sensitive with dynamics of power and privilege?

This weeks commitment to action as a purposeful leader isn’t just for this week but one that will carry on for the whole year.
